ANZAC Project

Thu 9 Apr 2015

As part of the commemoration of the centenary of the Gallipoli landing and the beginning of the ANZAC legend, Wirreanda Secondary School students have been involved in a number of different activities. They have visited the Morphett Vale RSL to listen to stories and gain an understanding of the history of the ANZAC legend and a number of guest speakers have visited the school to talk about their experiences in the Australian Army. A school assembly was held where Mr Frank Owen OAM, President of the Morphett Vale RSL, and Ms Katrine Hildyard MP, Member for Reynell, spoke to students about what ANZAC Day means to them and its relevance for the current generation.

Year 9 History students developed an Interactive Museum where 16 different displays have allowed students to experience activities including the Gallipoli landing and life in the trenches. Students’ work will be displayed at an exhibition at Torrens Parade Ground in Term 2 and a trip to Canberra in June has been planned to enable students to visit the National War Memorial.
