Disability Unit and Special Class

The Wirreanda Secondary School Unit consists of two Unit and two Special Classes and is a place of learning and development for up to 40 secondary school students with disabilities.

In our Unit classes, we have the capacity for 16 students, with two classes each being taught by one teacher and supported by one SSO.
In our Special Classes, we have the capacity for 24 students, with two classes each being taught by one teacher and supported by one SSO.
With all 4 classes supported by a Leader and an Assistant Principal.

Our focus is to provide and foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our students and their families. We value the role of our families and carers as integral partners in our students’ learning journey as they develop independence and prepare for post-school life.

Our students engage in individualised programs developed to enhance their skills in literacy and numeracy and to provide them with skills essential to leading productive and fulfilling lives beyond school. Senior school students engage in modified SACE subjects and pathways planning.

We explicitly teach skills needed for the development of friendships and encourage and support integration with mainstream students and staff through specialised programs.

Entry and eligibility into the Disability Unit and Special Class at Wirreanda Secondary School is determined externally through the Special Options process. Please contact your current school to discuss eligibility as part of this process.
