Disability Unit and Special Class
The Wirreanda Secondary School Unit consists of one Disability Unit class and two Special Options classes and is a place of learning and development for up to 32 secondary school students with disabilities.
In our Disability Unit class, we have the capacity for 8 students, with the class being taught by one teacher and supported by a minimum of one SSO. In our Special Classes, we have the capacity for 24 students, with each of the two classes being taught by one teacher and supported by one SSO. With all 3 classes supported by a Leader and an Assistant Principal.
We are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for our students and their families. We recognise and value families and carers as essential partners in each student’s learning journey, particularly as students work towards greater independence and prepare for life after school.
Each student participates in an individualised program designed to enhance literacy and numeracy, as well as develop the essential skills required for a fulfilling, productive life beyond school. Senior students also access modified SACE subjects and are supported through tailored pathways planning.
We explicitly teach social skills to support the development of friendships and actively encourage integration with mainstream students and staff through specialised programs and activities.
Entry and eligibility for the Disability Unit and Special Options classes at Wirreanda Secondary School are determined externally through the Special Options process. For information about eligibility, please contact your current school.
