Tailored Learning (WAVE)
The WAVE program is a Tailored Learning program for students at Wirreanda Secondary School. WAVE engages students through an individualised approach, which includes student-centred case management allowing identification of students’ goals and interests; removing any barriers to ensure students achieve their desired goals. This program supports students from year 8 to 12, allowing students to access a middle and senior school curriculum.
The WAVE program is located on the grounds of Wirreanda Secondary School as well as at an offsite location at Wardli Youth Centre. To be eligible for the WAVE program the young person must meet the Tailored Learning criteria.
Tailored Learning
Tailored Learning is a Department for Education program, formally known as Flexible Learning Options (FLO), which is designed for students who may face challenges in attending school regularly or have disengaged from school. Tailored Learning supports students by promoting a sense of belonging, building capacity to engage and learn, and supporting wellbeing. Tailored Learning aims to reengage students in education with individualised support. Tailored Learning provides flexible ways to support students in learning and overcoming barriers and providing transition pathways.
Enrolment
Enrolment into the WAVE program throughout each school year is dependent on places available and the needs of students at Wirreanda Secondary School. Enrolment into the WAVE program for the following year commences early in the current year, with mainstream house leaders being the key contact for students, families and guardians who are interested in finding out more.
The Tailored Learning Tool determines student eligibility for the program and factors in a range of life and school barriers which impact a student’s ability to attend school. Students must meet criteria to be in the WAVE program.
