Our students recently attended the Adelaide Central School of Art for an inspiring 4-day SmArts program. Working with teaching artists, they brainstormed, collaborated, and created a stunning mural, designed to reflect their school community. The collaborative effort introduced students to the SCAMPER method (Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, /Magnify/Minify, Put to another use, Eliminate, Rearrange/Reverse), as well as various artistic styles and mediums. They worked closely with teaching artists to bring their unique perspectives to the mural’s design and production. The final result? A beautiful mural shaped like a tree, reflecting our school’s logo, with individual canvases created by students hung from its branches. The project wasn’t just about art—it was about teamwork, creativity, and learning in a real studio setting. Students were supported by their teachers, Mr O’Callaghan and Mrs Westgarth, whose enthusiasm and active participation made a significant impact. Suzanne Close from the Adelaide Central School of Art praised our students’ creativity and the positive atmosphere they brought to the program, while Mr O’Callaghan highlighted the value of this unique educational opportunity for his students. This project truly showed that from small beginnings, great things can grow. The mural will be displayed at Wirreanda Secondary School as a lasting symbol of creativity, collaboration, and the nurturing of young talent. … See MoreSee Less
